Take a Bus to the San Francisco Pride Parade

Visit the World’s Biggest Celebration of Diversity in Style and Comfort—On a Charter Bus

Billed as the “largest gathering of LGBT people and allies” in the United States, the 44th annual San Francisco Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Celebration, or San Francisco Pride, is all set to go for June 24-25, 2017. The festivities will kick off at noon on Saturday with a celebration at the Civic Center Plaza and the annual parade starts at 10:30 Sunday morning. There’s also a Rotunda Party at City Hall Sunday afternoon.

San Francisco Pride regularly brings more than a million visitors to the Bay Area and organizers are expecting a record crowd this year. You don’t want to have to fight that kind of traffic or spend your time looking for a parking space or trying to locate your car. There’s a much better way to participate in SF Pride—in the comfort, luxury and convenience of a charter bus from BusRental.com. Relax with old and new friends, family and a powerfully diverse community while we take care of all the details.

The Parade

The Pride Parade is actually older than the festival, dating back to 1970, when gay rights advocates marched down Polk Street and held a “gay-in” in Golden Gate Park. It’s now considered one of the premier Pride parades in the world, traversing Market Street for more than four hours. Every year, there are literally hundreds of continents in the parade, typically led by the Dykes on Bikes, hundreds of motorcycle riders of all genders and sexual identities. Another regular attendee is PFLAG (Parents, Families and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, a group that’s extremely popular with parade-goers. You’ll see religious organizations that support and affirm LGBT people, floats and other entries from LGBT-oriented businesses, local politicians (hey, it’s a parade), and contingents from many San Francisco companies. Traditionally, the crowds attending the parade are allowed to cross the barriers after the parade has passed them and follow the march to the Civic Center, where the rest of the festivities take place.

Though the Sunday morning parade is the largest of the weekend, you can also attend the Trans March on Friday or the Dyke March on Saturday night.

The Festival

The Pride Festival includes a large assortment of vendors, booths, and stages. You’ll find a wide range of food, beverage and other merchants around the Civic Center area next to City Hall. There are more than 20 stages and other venues, where you’ll find world class entertainment. Past performers have  included the B-52s, Joan Baez, the Backstreet Boys, En Vogue, Janis Ian, Chaka Khan, the Pointer Sisters, Third Eye Blind and Lady Gaga. Sir Ian McKellen served as Grand Marshal in 2002.

The theme for this year’s festival is “A Celebration of Diversity,” but organizers say it will have a decidedly political agenda, in light of the current administration’s treatment of and record on LGBT issues. One of the keynote speakers will be Maysam Sodagari, an Iranian immigrant who was illegally detained when the Trump administration tried to ban travel by individuals from predominantly Muslim countries.

Pink Saturday

On Saturday night, there’s a big street party, known as Pink Saturday, in the city’s Castro district, considered the largest LGBT village in the world. There’s no set cost to attend the Saturday night festivities, but attendees will be solicited for donations. The event typically draws in excess of 100,000 participants and raises a few hundred thousand dollars.
