Catch the World’s Best in 2107’s Final Grand Slam

See All the Action in Flushing Meadows Like one of the Pros—in a Charter Bus from

September in Flushing Meadows means one thing—the best male and female tennis players in the world will convene for the last big tournament of the year, gathering at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center for two weeks of nonstop action. This year’s championship promises to be one for the ages, as legends Rafael Nadal, ranked second and third in the world, respectively, are both riding career resurgences that see them playing some of the best tennis ever.

There’s no tournament like it anywhere in the world. This is not the laid-back atmosphere of Melbourne, the staid green grass of Wimbledon or the gritty red clay of Roland Garros. The pros know when they come to Flushing Meadows that the atmosphere will be raucous, that New Yorkers know and love tennis, and are not afraid to let the world know. It almost always gets loud, especially at the night matches.

But the US Open is about more than tennis…this is New York City, after all. Just being in Queens is a cultural experience. There’s great food, inside and outside of the tennis facility, and there are countless things to do if it rains or you just need a break from tennis.

It is New York, though, and you can easily be overwhelmed if you have to check the map or GPS, battle traffic or look for a place to park. There’s an easier way to make certain you fully enjoy every minute of the Open—travel to Flushing Meadows on a charter bus from Relax with friends and family while we take care of all the details.

What to Expect at the 2017 US Open

Though Swiss star Stan (“the Man”) Wawrinka will be defending his title last year, all eyes will be on his compatriot, Roger Federer, who will be seeking his 20th major championship, having already won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year. It’s a huge resurgence for Federer, the all-time men’s leader in Grand Slam titles, who had not won a major since 2012. Fed has played a nearly flawless season in 2017, losing only twice in 33 matches. At the ripe old age of 36 (his birthday is just weeks before the Open), Federer appears poised to play at a top level for years to come.

Hot on Federer’s heels is his long time nemesis Rafael Nadal, who has won 15 Grand Slam titles, including this year’s French Open (his 10th crown there). Nadal seemed to have Federer’s number for a number of years, but Federer has made some adjustments to his strategy against Nadal and has won the last four meetings between the two.

On the women’s side, it will be another wide open tournament, with all-time Grand Slam leader Serena Williams on the sidelines expecting her first child. Last year’s champ, Angelique Kerber, recently lost her world number one ranking to Karolina Pliskova, but there’s a lot of parity in the women’s game and any one of a couple dozen players with a legitimate shot at the title, including senior stateswoman Venus Williams, who made the Wimbledon final two months ago at the age of 37.

A couple of things to notice at this year’s tournament—the USTA is experimenting with a couple rules changes that may have an impact. A “shot clock” will be used to keep track of the time between points, so that play can be expedited. In addition, players will be allowed to have coaching from the side of the court.
