Over the last two decades, the Komen Laugh for the Cure has raised more than a million dollars for cancer research and community education. Founded in 2002 by Tammy Greyshock, whose mother and two aunts have all been diagnosed with breast cancer, the night of laughter starts at 5:30 and includes a VIP party, as well as a survivor’s reception—new this year. This Year’s Headliners

Craig Shoemaker, named “Funniest Male Stand-Up Comic at the American Comedy Awards in 1997, has appeared on many television programs, from Parks & Recreation to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. He’s had stand-up comedy specials on Showtime and Comedy Central, including the hit “Daditude.” Recognizing the healing power of laughter, Craig founded LaughterHeals.org in 2003. He hosts a weekly podcast called Laugh It Off.

Jason Allen King started his professional career in standup comedy, but also acts, writes and directs films. He’s worked on The Hunger Games, Talledega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, and the televisions series Eastbound and Down.

Susan G. Komen and Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Originally the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, the organization is the largest breast cancer non-profit in the country. Founded in Dallas,Texas in 1982, Komen has raised almost one and a half billion dollars through partnerships in more than 50 countries around the world. The organization was started by Norma Goodman Brinker, the younger sister of Susan Goodman Komen, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 33 and died of the disease three years later.

The entity’s signature event has long been the “Race for the Cure,®” the world’s largest breast cancer fundraising event. The Race for the Cure typically involves a 5K road race, as well as fitness walks. The first Race for the Cure was held in Dallas in 1983, with approximately 800 participants. The annual races, now numbering more than 130, currently draw nearly two million participants and involve over 100,000 volunteers. In addition to Laugh for the Cure, other events tied to Komen include the Bowl for the Cure, Marathon for the Cure, and a three day walk.

Komen’s philosophy involves promoting more than cancer research. The organization emphasizes self-awareness and universal mammography screening as important tools in the fight against breast cancer.
